Kate Ritchie joined Nova's breakfast radio show • 16 Nov 2007

Home and Away starlet Kate Ritchie will leave Summer Bay to take up radio hosting duties with Merrick and Rosso(pictured with Kate this morning at the announcement in Sydney Harbour) on Nova next year.

Ritchie, who announced in September she would finish up filming on the popular teen soap in December after 20 years, will join the comic duo on their breakfast show from January 2008.

"I'm feeling really excited," Ritchie told AAP. "I've always wondered what the next thing would be for me after Home and Away, and it's really nice to tell everybody and be really happy about it."

Ritchie had a taste of radio earlier this year when she co-hosted the drive show with comedian Akmal Saleh in place of actor Matthew Newton.

She said that experience has given her a bit more confidence coming into the new job. "Anything new is always going to be daunting," she said. "I am glad that earlier in the year I did a bit of work in the drive time slot with Akmal and I got a little bit of a feel for it. "I would have been freaking out had that not been the case."

Ritchie's new co-hosts, Merrick Watts and Tim Ross, have regularly chatted to the 29-year-old on the show, but are looking forward to having her join them full time. "I'm personally excited about Kate joining because over the years it got a little hard to pretend we watched the show," Rosso joked. Merrick said he hoped Ritchie would bring talent and some new stories to the program.

The 2007 Gold Logie winner admitted one of the biggest challenges would be opening up and sharing a bit of herself with listeners. "For 20 years I've told someone else's story and have been given a script every day," she said. "What I found hardest at first is in some ways exposing yourself a little bit and telling your own story. "I'd better go out there over the holidays and get a bit of life experience so I've got something to talk about."

Ritchie received her last stack of scripts for Home and Away this week, and said she was pleased with how Sally Fletcher was written out of the show. But she isn't giving anything away. "I am actually happy with it. It's very fitting," she said. While not revealing whether Sally dies or not, she hasn't ruled out reappearing on the show sometime in the future. "Even if you die on a show like Home and Away it doesn't mean you can't come back," she laughed.
"Yeah, with her two cousins from Shepparton," Merrick added.

Former Home and Away cast member, Isabel Lucas is campaign spokesperson for the 'Save The Whales Again' organisation.

Campaign spokespersons Hayden Panettiere, Isabel Lucas, Dave Rastovich, and Jeff Pantukhoff have just returned from Taiji where their actions resulted in worldwide media coverage of the cruel and barbaric dolphin drive fisheries. Help us keep the pressure on!!!

Isabel and the 'Save The Whales Again' organisation are asking for thousands of people to gather on Bondi Beach from 2-5pm Friday November 16 to participate in a "SAVE THE WHALES AGAIN!" Rally and create a unique aerial art image to bring attention to the plight of the Australian Humpback whales and the more than 1,000 whales that are being threatened by the Japanese Whaling fleet. A press conference at 2pm will kick off the event.

Tomorrow, special guests will include "Save the Whales Again!" Campaign spokespersons Isabel Lucas, pro surfer Dave Rastovich and others who will join internationally renowned Aerial Artist John Quigley and "Save the Whales Again!" Campaign founder Jeff 'Whaleman' Pantukhoff in the creation of a giant Human Humpback Whale and conservation message which will be photographed from the air.

There is a growing international movement of enforcement of International whaling laws. Participants in the event will be standing up and calling on the Australian Government to stand up to Japan and stop this illegal hunting. In addition, we are calling upon Australian?s and the citizens of the world to NOT purchase anything from the whaling nations of Japan, Norway and Iceland until they stop killing dolphins and whales.

The event is being sponsored by the Save The Whales Again! Campaign, the Whaleman Foundation, Spectral Q, Surfers For Cetaceans, and others.

Sports greats, actors, TV presenters and a musician have flexed their creative muscles to produce a collection of colourful masterpieces for children who have been the victims of violence.

Shane Warne, James Hird, Scott Lucas, Livinia Nixon, Giaan Rooney, Nadine Garner, Shane Bourne, John Bertrand, Vanessa Amorosi, Kim Watkins and Rhys Wakefield have created the brilliant original works for the Alannah and Madeline Foundation.

Proceeds from the sale of the paintings will go to the foundation, which runs programs for children who have experienced or witnessed serious violence.

The Alannah and Madeline Foundation is a national charity keeping children safe from violence. They care for children who have experienced or witnessed serious violence and run programs which help prevent violence in the lives of children. In 2007 the Foundation celebrates 10 years of caring.

A message from Rhys on his painting: “My painting represents two seasons. It’s autumn leaves under wintry snow, with true colours shining through. It’s a new season, with last season underneath. The opportunity to support the Alannah and Madeline Foundation and their amazing cause is a pleasure.”

Rent The Musical Opens In Bunbury • 09 Nov 2007

Tim Campbell jokes that on screen, he is like Andrew OKeefe; on stage, he is OKeefes late uncle, legendary Australian rocker Johnny OKeefe.

Campbell is in Perth to star in a WA-only production of the award-winning musical Rent but has become almost as omnipresent on the small screen as Seven Network co-star OKeefe through his role as Dan Baker on Home and Away, competing in the last season of Dancing with the Stars and as host of the hit new game show, National Bingo Night.

"Im having a competition with Andrew OKeefe and Grant Denyer to see who can be on the most shows in a year," says Campbell. "Andrew will win. Its only a $20 bet but all of Australia has to put up with it."

Campbell, 32, has also been working on a TV travel series in Tasmania with Better Homes and Gardens chef Ed Halmagyi.

After Rent ends its Perth run (it has already played in Bunbury), hes off to Melbourne to begin rehearsing for the musical Shout, in which he plays Johnny OKeefe.

Enjoying a day off from rehearsals, Campbell spent Melbourne Cup day at Ascot Racecourse with his Rent co-stars Anthony Callea and Nikki Webster.

After being approached by female fans calling out "Bingo Man", Campbell admits the attention he gets has changed in the few weeks National Bingo Night has been on air. "It started off being youre Leahs husband, then I got promoted to Dan, now I have definitely had Bingo Man, he says.

Campbell filmed this season of National Bingo during a production break from Home and Away. He finished his three-year stint on the show about a month ago but Dan will be seen on air until the end of this month when the show goes into summer hiatus.

Highlights of his time on the soapie include getting to sing at Leah and Dans wedding and storylines where Dan dealt with a gambling problem, although at last years Melbourne Cup, it led to people shouting at him "Dan put your money away".

Its not exactly a secret that Campbell has left the show; so just how does Dan leave? "The storyline on air at the moment is the American woman it looked like he was having an affair with, he met her on a school excursion," Campbell says. "She thought he was a great counsellor and offered this job. Basically he gets the job overseas. What happens after that, I dont know."

Campbell has been a popular performer at events including Telethon and Carols in the Domain but says he only recently started feeling comfortable calling himself a singer.

"One of the reasons for leaving Home and Away was to try to do more hosting, musicals and things like that.

"To go from Dan on Home and Away to playing Roger in Rent, as a performer it is kind of chalk and cheese but something I wanted to do."

H&A Central : Closing 18th November • 01 Nov 2007

Home and Away Central will be closing officially for good on 18 November 2007. As most of you know, I am 16 years old and currently starting year 12 my final year of high school. As a result of this, I must close the site as I spend way too much time updating (so says my Mum). I was meant to close late last year in 2006, except I convinced my Mum to let me keep the site open for another few months - up until now which I have to close because this actually is my final year now.

Lots of you will also know Julz who has helped me update the site with articles over the last few months. Sadly Julz will be leaving Home and Away Central from today. She has her major exams creeping up on her in a few weeks, so will officially leave the website now. I wish to thank Julz for all her work put into Home and Away Central over the last few months as I couldn’t have kept it open without her.

Updates until the 18th of November will remain the same. The site and gallery will close but the forum will stay open so please join the Home and Away fans community. I will still be the administrator of the forum, so I am not very far away :)

Thankyou again to all the visitors who have visited Home and Away Central; the site, forum and gallery each day. The site wouldn't have been running without you all.

Isabel Lucas goes to Japan to save the whales • 01 Nov 2007

Former Home and Away cast member Isabel Lucasflew to Japan to join a high-profile protest in Japan at the site where thousands of pilot whales are slaughtered every year.

She joined other celebrities - including Hayden Panettiere from the television show Heroes - and professional surfers to form a floating circle on surf boards offshore near the coastal village of Taiji. The pre-dawn protest was staged in recent days and it sparked a heated confrontation with local fishermen.

"They (the fishermen) kept revving their engines and driving towards us," Lucas says in footage released by the protest group to the Australian media. Reflecting on the day’s experience, a somber Isabel Lucas said, “The worst part is that whales are probably all dead by now. We couldn’t save these whales but hopefully shining the light on their deaths will save others.”

I have added some pics of Isabel in Japan for the great cause of saving whales and dolphins to the gallery here

Jodi, Indiana's Bondi bolt

HOME and Away babes Jodi Gordon and Indiana Evans did the bolt from their Summer Bay home yesterday, much to the approval of fans in Bondi.

Gordon, the girlfriend of Channel Seven heir Ryan Stokes, and Evans made quite the splash on Campbell Pde where they spent the morning filming for the Seven soap.

As the episode won't air until next year, a Home and Away publicist was reluctant to give away the plot, other than it was a story line detailing the Summer Bay stunners living it up in the big smoke. Flamin' hell!

Honey - Lynne McGranger • 26 Sep 2007

* Honey: will be held on Saturday, October 20 to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
* Tickets: cost $40 or $30 student and concession.
* Venue: The show starts at 8pm at the Riverside Theatres, Church St, Parramatta.
* Bookings: phone Ronia at The Leukaemia Foundation on 9902 2222.

LYNNE McGranger was a teenager when the Vietnam War was dominating the headlines.

It caused barely a ruffle on her horizon but the Hills actor now has a deep appreciation of what the returning veterans had to endure.

She is currently juggling her commitments as Irene the foster mum in the long-running Channel 7 soapie Home and Away with rehearsals for the stage show Honey which opens at the Riverside Theatres next month.

The play centres around a Vietnam vet whose daughter, Honey, is diagnosed with leukemia which is linked to an Agent Orange incident during his Vietnam service.

"It's funny, gut-wrenching and thought provoking,'' McGranger says. "I am thoroughly enjoying rehearsals. It's fantastic getting back to the theatre.'' McGranger plays the mum in Honey and it's as far removed from her much-loved role of Irene as you can get. "She's in her `60s, crippled with arthritis and very grumpy,'' McGranger says.

Honey has been a labour of love for Australian legend and Gold Logie winner Lorrae Desmond who has promoted the cause of the ``forgotten diggers'' for 30 years, after five tours of Vietnam.

When she read Bryce Courtenay's book Smoky Joe's Cafe six years ago her idea for Honey started to build.

With Courtenay's blessing she approached Gael Ballantyne (Mamma Mia and La Cage aux Folles) and musicians Charlie Hull, Martine DeCock, Scott Ogier and Doug Parkinson to work on a script and score that would mix mateship, humour and music to create something special.

McGranger says the play achieves just that as Thommo and his mates all Vietnam vets band together to raise money for Honey to have a bone marrow transplant. "It is amazingly uplifting,'' she promises.

Honey will run at Riverside Theatres Parramatta from October 18 to November 3. For showtimes and bookings, call 8839 3399.

Jessica stopped going to malls • 26 Sep 2007

JESSICA Tovey has stopped going to shopping malls. As with most women, Tovey still loves to shop, but the soap star has learned to avoid places where teen girls like to hang out. The last time she went shopping she was chased by a pack of autograph-hungry schoolgirls. Tovey, 19, joined Home and Away as the feisty Belle Taylor in 2006.

She was nominated for the most popular new talent Logie this year, but lost to co-star Amy Matthews.

Tovey, who has a striking resemblance to Hollywood fashionista Mischa Barton, is rumoured to be dating co-star Bobby Morley, who plays her onscreen boyfriend Drew Curtis.

But she will not confirm the relationship, saying she likes to keep her "private life private''.

As her character's popularity grows, she admits it is becoming increasingly difficult to do that.

Tovey says her recent Katie Holmes-style bobbed haircut has given her more anonymity.

"They colour and cut our hair for us at work for continuity,'' she says. You can't just go out and cut your hair on a whim. Luckily my character's a bit more grunge so I can get away with cutting it.''

Tovey is relishing being part of the show she watched growing up.

"Belle is a really fun character to play. She's not quite a villain or the good girl; she's strong-willed and confident and she makes mistakes.''

Tovey also enjoys treading the boards and in June starred in Our Town with fellow Home and Away star Tim Campbell (Dan Baker).

Tim interview • 20 Oct 2007

MY BIG BREAK
20 October 2007
Daily Telegraph

Home And Away resident nice bloke Tim Campbell, who began acting while at high school, will host Channel 7's new game show National Bingo Night, which premieres tomorrow evening.

When did you decide you wanted to become an entertainer?
I was about 20 and decided not to go down the safe path. It's been so far so good.

What was your first acting gig?
It was a ``50-worder'' on Home And Away as Brad, a soccer player from Yabbie Creek.

How did you land it?
I had met the casting directors and they later offered me the role.

What do you consider was your big break?
It's a close toss-up between hosting Yogi's Fun And Fitness Show at Rockdale Plaza and Home And Away.

What do you like to do when not working?
Me, the couch, the remote, chocolate and wine have a lovely relationship.

What are your plans for the future?
TV drama, musical theatre and television hosting are the three loves I want to pursue. I'm hoping not to choose one.

National Bingo Night - Sunday, Seven, 6.30pm • 19 Oct 2007

National Bingo Night
14 October 2007
The Sunday Mail

TIM Campbell won't have the support of any of his former Home and Away cast mates when his new TV show premieres next Sunday -- not on camera, anyway.

Home and Away's Ada Nicodemou said she was planning a party to celebrate and support Campbell's new show, National Bingo Night which has cash prizes for Sunday Mail readers as well as contestants and studio audiences.

"I am going to get together a big group of people at my house. A few of the guys from the show will be there,'' said Nicodemou.

Nicodemou said she was highly competitive and considers herself a bit of a bingo shark, adding that she had picked up the game as a young child.

"I am really competitive, it is a really bad trait of mine,'' she said. The rules for National Bingo Night are simple.

The rules for National Bingo Night are simple. Three games are played in an episode with three different contestants trying their luck against the studio audience, while numbered balls are randomly selected from the bingo sphere.

The studio audience tracks the numbers on their own bingo cards for their chance to win big or send the contestant home with nothing.

The Sunday Telegraph readers also have a chance to win by matching numbers called out during the show with bingo cards that can only be found in next week's paper.

Tim's away from the Bay
6 October 2007

BREAKING up is hard but Tim Campbell did it yesterday when he filmed his last scenes on Home and Away after 3 1/2 years.

``It's ony really hit me now I've made this decision and, knowing how hard it can be as an actor, I wonder if it is the right decision,'' Campbell told TV editor Marcus Casey.

``It's a fantastic place to work and the actors and crew are the nicest bunch to work with and I will miss the social aspect but I'm excited I have other work lined up.''

Campbell is heading to Perth for a six-week run in Rent before an extended season as Johnny O'Keefe in a new production of Shout in Melbourne and Sydney.

He will be on screen until the end of the year but it will be a messy departure as his character Dan is happily married to Ada Nicodemou.

``They did want me to stay on because Dan is safely married to Ada's character and it's an established relationship so it will be an unfortunate storyline,'' he said. `He doesn't get killed off -- he gets a job offer he can't refuse and leaves Summer Bay behind.'

Which of course leaves open the possibility of Dan one day returning home from being away.

National Bingo Night • 01 Oct 2007

National Bingo Night is expected to debut on Seven this month.

It is local version of a US format in which a studio audience plays against one contestant in a game based on bingo. Seven filmed a block of episodes at Fox Studios last month with actor Tim Campbell as host.

Campbell stars in Seven's Home and Away and was an early favourite (before a controversial defeat) in the last series of Dancing with the Stars.

The US version - in which viewers can download their own bingo cards and play along for prizes - had mixed results, coming third in its timeslot.

Kate moving to Melbourne? • 01 Oct 2007

COULD soon-to-be-former Home and Away actor Kate Ritchie be moving to Melbourne?

Sources told Confidential that Ritchie had signed a lease for an apartment in Melbourne near St Kilda Rd, and was planning to move south in December.

Ritchie has not regretted her decision to quit the show after 20 years. One of the hardest things was being in the spotlight.

``It was hard adjusting to people wanting to know about your life, especially when I was at school,'' she said. ``But as you get older you adjust to it, and I just feel completely blessed.''

Tim Campbell also leaving Home and Away • 30 Sep 2007

Home and Away favourite Tim Campbell is leaving the long-running soap.

Campbell, who has played Dan Baker in the show for the past three years, is swapping the sand and sun of Summer Bay for the stage.

Campbell, who is soon to be seen as host of new Channel 7 game show National Bingo Night, has signed on for a season of the popular show Rent in Perth.

But his star turn may come when he takes on the role of wild one Johnny O'Keefe in a revival of hit show Shout.

Campbell will head an all-star cast that will include Colleen Hewett, Glenn Shorrock, Mark Holden and John Paul Young.

The show will open at the State Theatre at the Arts Centre on January 4.

Tim Campbell is expected to depart the Home and Away set within days, though his character will be seen on-air until early next year.

Rhys Wakefield will leave the show later this year.
